Police arrest secondary school student for killing schoolmate



The police have arraigned an 18-year-old pupil,
Saka Hammed, for allegedly killing his
schoolmate, Saheed Jimoh, in the Amukoko area
of Lagos State.
The police arraigned Hammed before an Ebute-
Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on one
count of manslaughter.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Hammed and
Jimoh were friends, and attended Gaskiya
College.
While Hammed, who repeated a class, was in
Senior Secondary School 2, Jimoh, who was a
school prefect, was in SSS 3.
The two were said to have had a brawl outside
the school gate after Hammed lied to Jimoh that
a teacher was chasing them.
The suspect reportedly pushed the victim into
the gutter, where he hit his chest against a
concrete
He was said to have rushed him to a hospital,
where he was pronounced dead by a doctor.
Hammed was later arrested by the police for the
crime.
The charge read, “That you, Saka Hammed, aka
Ejo, on November 4, 2015, at about 8am, at
Gaskiya College gate, Amukoko, Lagos, in the
Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one
Saheed Jimoh, aged 19 years, by pushing him
into the gutter where he hit his chest on an iron
rod and thereby committed an offence
punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal
Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The police, in a remand application brought
before the court, said Hammed had confessed to
the crime and was identified by witnesses.
The Investigating Police Officer from the State
Department of Criminal Investigation said the
police were awaiting legal advice from the
Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.F.O. Botoku,
however, admitted the defendant to bail in the
sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till January 18, 2016.
