A woman has given birth to her own grandchild
after she acted as a surrogate for her daughter.
Tracey Thompson, 54, offered to carry 28-year-old
Kelley McKissack’s baby after she had three
miscarriages and years of infertility.
On Wednesday at The Medical Center of Plato in
Texas, Ms Thompson gave birth to a healthy baby
girl weighing 6lbs and 11oz. Mrs McKissack
named her Kelcey.
‘My lovely mum gave me the best gift I could ever
have in my life,’ Ms McKissack said.
‘You have friends, and there are many women
who are willing to do it.
‘I just want people to know, you can have your
biological child still.’
Though Ms Thompson was seven years past
menopause, doctors were able to implant an
embryo into her womb using state-of-the-art
reproductive technology.
Dr Joseph Leveno, who carried out the procedure,
called it a ‘miracle’.
