Just to be clear, I was initially in
support of the peace discussion the Federal Government was initiating
with the Niger Delta militants, but I am seriously reconsidering this
stand. These so-called militants, under whatever name they may group
themselves, have succeeded largely on two fronts. Namely, killing Nigeria and killing Nigerians.
Numerous Nigerians have directly been on
the receiving end of these people’s brutality, most of them now dead,
maimed or homeless. Their activities of blowing up oil installations
have not only affected this country’s economy directly, offer of peace
negotiation, which they accepted and declared a ceasefire, they still
launched another attack on Nembe creek.
Though their agitations may be
justified, it seems very much misdirected considering how a few of their
elite have mismanaged developmental funds, at the expense of the
masses.
Either through peace negotiation or military action, this menace must end, as Nigeria has had enough of it.
However, it will be much more beneficial to both parties if a common ground can be reached.
